After a glass artist creates enough pieces there may be shoe boxes full of glass pieces. These are valuable! A screen melt is just one fun way to use these shards. A stainless steel screen is piled high with a variety of pleasing colors. It is fired to a high temperature of 1600-1700 degrees. Opening the kiln the next day is always interesting.

Choosing a pleasing combination of colors for a screen melt is a learning experience. Some colors can dominate such as black and brown so little is needed to be noticed while other colors may take longer to fully melt.
